Adult and Senior Eye Exams
A full comprehensive eye examination must be a routine part of every person’s health and wellness routine. It is recommended that adults aged 19-64 get eye exams at least every 2 years. Seniors over 65 years old should get eye exams every year.
At Duke Eye Care, we offer advanced technology to thoroughly test every part of our patients’ eyes. We also consider the patients’ general health, medications and family history so that we can put a whole picture together to offer patients the very best care possible. We can often see clues in patients’ eyes to help diagnose systemic issues. It’s possible to diagnose conditions such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and cancer during a full comprehensive eye examination. We also offer specialty eye care for dry eye, myopia, eye strain, and other conditions.
During the exam, we will also ask lifestyle questions to really get to know our patient, so that we can recommend glasses or contact lenses that enhance their visual comfort and solve problems they may be having.
At Duke Eye Care, we offer a large variety of frames, lenses and contact lenses so that we have something for every unique visual need.

Children’s Eye Exams
We recommend that children get their first eye exam at 6 months old, and then every year after that. It is incredibly important for children to have their eyes checked that young. They often cannot tell you (or don’t even realize) if something is wrong.
The Duke Eye Care team will thoroughly check your child’s eye health, focusing ability and binocular vision during each eye exam. They don’t need to be able to answer our questions for us to know what’s going on with their eyes!
As kids get older, it is important to routinely assess focusing ability and binocular vision, as even small issues can make reading and school harder than they need to be.
If children have systemic diseases such as juvenile arthritis or diabetes, they may need to be assessed more often. One thing that we are most proud of is hearing kids say how much fun they had during their eye exam!

Health Eye Exams
If patients have systemic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, multiple sclerosis or arthritis, is it incredibly important to have frequent, comprehensive eye examinations. At Duke Eye Care, we offer advanced technology and experience to diagnose, monitor, and treat eye complications related to systemic conditions.
Many medications used to treat systemic health conditions have potential ocular side effects. We will ask every patient about their medications and overall general health to ensure a complete, thorough, and effective eye exam.
